What TO DO

12 Things You SHOULD DO After Every Personal Injury

The book explains what every Wisconsin injury victim should do following an accident.  What follows is a brief summary of the list. For a full list please order the book.

  • Stop. Wisconsin law requires that the driver of an automobile involved in an injury collision to remain at the scene of the accident.

  • Assist the Injured. If you are injured, then obtain medical assistance as soon as possible.

  • Call 911. The police should be called to any injury scene.

  • Obtain the Identity of All Witnesses. All too often, the investigating officers fail to obtain the identity of all of the individuals at an injury scene. The only way to ensure you can later find witnesses, is to obtain their information before they leave the scene.

  • Document the Accident. Date, time, exact location, diagram, etc. The more information the better.

  • Assist the Authorities. You should provide the investigating authorities with your version of the events. Remember to stick to the facts as you witnessed them and do not speculate about what you did not personally witness. Also, avoid drawing conclusions as to fault.

  • Contact Your Insurance Company. You do have an obligation to inform your insurer of any potential claim. However, you should consult a lawyer before providing any insurance company with a recorded statement.
